The loop road past the quarry to Hunt Hill and Cairncattoch (A-B-C-D-E-F) will be closed from 19th July until roughly mid September then
as work progresses westwards through the block, the quarry loop will be reopened and the main haul road (A-F)towards the Mannoch Hill closed until around the end of November to complete the operation. Every effort will be made to reopen the walking routes as quickly as possible with additional machinery on site during the core of the operation and the facility for seven day working.
Timber harvesting operations are potentially very dangerous. The timber harvester saw chain can break so the machine has a safe risk zone of 200m. Anyone struck by broken chain within this area has a very high risk of fatal injury. Operators, not least for their own safety, need to be highly focussed on their work and it is for this reason that we make every reasonable effort to prevent the public from accessing harvesting sites.
Our team will be putting up interpretation and timber traffic warning signage next week at the entrances to Elchies which will include information on where you can continue to walk, cycle or ride in safety in the forest over the summer months. Forest Enterprise Scotland would ask for cooperation from all forest users in the interests of their own safety and those of operational personnel please. |
