Updated Forestry work Schedule:

The Forest Enterprise Scotland harvesting operation currently underway
at Hunthill will continue until approximately mid February subject to
weather conditions. Haulage is expected to be completed in mid April.
The site will be opened to the public and the signage removed as soon as
it is considered safe.  The coming year sees a continuation of major
harvesting operations throughout Elchies both to secure timber supplies
and to deal with Red Band Needle Blight disease. The presence of
protected species in Elchies means that we have to avoid some areas
during the bird breeding season hence the outline programme below.

Next on schedule is the 'Heatherlea' site programmed for April through
June. This will require closure of both the main forest road and the
footpath between the main forest road and the burn road. This will
impact quite a bit on recreational use of the forest so every effort
will be made to reopen both routes as soon as it is safe to do so.
Operations then move to 'Blackhillock' from roughly June through August.
This is a remote site and should not impact on recreational use. Once
completed the final site of 2011 is at the very top of the Mannoch Road
near the gate onto Knockando Estate. This will again require the closure
of the final section of the main forest road whilst operations are
underway. The information is by way of early notification and the
timings are indicative at this stage. Details of the sites including
maps will be produced and information and site signage erected once the
programme is finalised.

Forest managers have a statutory duty determined by the Health & Safety
Executive to implement measures for public safety. There are a large
number of hazards associated with harvesting sites particularly even
when machinery is not actually working. Outwith harvesting sites the
forest remains a welcoming resource for walkers, cyclists, riders and
skiers to enjoy but do please ensure for your own safety and that of our
contractors and staff that you comply with any signage or guidance.'

Thanks. JDT
